Queensland real estate CPD requirements, explained
The short version: complete two OFT-approved CPD sessions every CPD year — either two Type 1 sessions, or one Type 1 and one Type 2. Queensland counts sessions, not points or hours. Your CPD year runs from the anniversary of your licence issue date.

How many CPD sessions do Queensland real estate agents need each year?
Two. The Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) requires licensees to complete two approved CPD sessions per CPD year — either two Type 1 sessions, or one Type 1 and one Type 2. Two Type 2 sessions never make a valid year: at least one Type 1 is always required.
Does Queensland use CPD points or hours?
No. Queensland deliberately uses a session-based system, not points or hours. Compliance is a simple check: have you completed a valid pair of OFT-approved sessions inside your current CPD year? Each session runs roughly 2–3 hours, but the session — not the hours — is the unit that counts.
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 CPD sessions?
Type 1 sessions are condensed versions of units of competency from the national Property Services Training Package — core technical skills like trust accounts, legislation and ethical practice. Type 2 sessions are not based on the training package and cover service delivery, consumer outcomes, communication, ethics and business skills. Every licensee must complete at least one Type 1 each CPD year.
When does my CPD year start and end?
Your CPD year is personal to you: it starts on the anniversary of your licence or registration issue date, not on 1 January or 1 July. If you hold multiple licences, your CPD year aligns to the earliest issue date. If you upgrade or change your licence, it realigns to the new issue date. Training completed before your CPD year opens does not count.
How do I know a CPD session is approved in Queensland?
Approved sessions carry an OFT session code beginning with QLDCPD (for example QLDCPD20264105). Only sessions on the OFT's published list count, and sessions approved in other states are not accepted in Queensland. Every CPD session on QRET CPD displays its QLDCPD session code and Type before you enrol.
Who is exempt from CPD in Queensland?
You are generally exempt if your licence or registration was first issued less than 12 months ago (CPD begins 12 months after initial issue), your licence was deactivated for the majority of the CPD year, you hold a limited licence for affordable housing or business letting, or you are a public sector agency representative. Exceptional-circumstances exemptions must be both unforeseeable and unavoidable.
What proof of CPD completion do I need to keep?
Your training provider must give you proof of completion — QRET CPD issues a verifiable Statement of Completion the moment you finish a session. You must retain it for 5 years and produce it if the OFT asks. At licence renewal you declare your CPD is complete; the OFT may verify the declaration later, and false declarations can cost a licence.
Can I complete Queensland real estate CPD online?
Yes. OFT-approved CPD sessions can be delivered online. QRET CPD sessions are completed fully online, self-paced, with engagement checks and knowledge checks built in, and your Statement of Completion is issued automatically when you finish. Face-to-face sessions are also available.
How much does real estate CPD cost in Queensland?
On QRET CPD, individual OFT-approved sessions are $149 each, or an annual membership covers your full two-session pair: Silver is $249 (a saving of $49 on buying both separately), Gold is $399 and adds the members' content library, and Platinum is $599 and adds four Essentials short courses as well. What happens if I don't complete my CPD?
The OFT will not process your licence renewal until your CPD is complete. Leaving both sessions to the weeks before renewal is the most common way licensees get caught out — your CPD year end date is fixed to your licence anniversary, so sessions completed after it close count toward the next year, not the one you missed.
